Title

Annual Report - VU Social Action Programs 1970

Description

In an annual report of the Office of Social Action, Rev. James T. Ryan, O.S.A., and Edward L. Collymore, Director and Assistant Director of the office respectively, describe their various efforts throughout the 1969-1970 academic year. After a brief history of the office, Fr. Ryan and Collymore note the mission of the office stating, “The aim of the office for Social Action Programs is to identify problems of society relevant to an institution of higher education, and to bring to bear the University’s resources in seeking solutions.”

Highlighted in the report are the offices efforts with various programs including the Academic Advancement Program, student volunteer programs, affirmative action procedures, and others, as well as a plans for the following year.

This report also notes the office’s special attention to matters of race within the Villanova community. “Although the Social Action Programs Office is not specifically charged to deal with racial problems on the campus, neither is any other office. Quite naturally then, our staff has become involved.”
