Title
Account book for the Bishop's Bank, Julia Moulden (1869-71)
Description
Julia Moulden's first transaction with the Catholic Diocese of Philadelphia’s Bishop’s Bank was on February 12, 1869. The Bishop’s Bank was diocesan-run and was established in 1848 for Catholics who felt unwelcome at other banks. Julia's last withdrawal was May 5, 1881, though the bank did not fully close until 1889. The money that Julia deposited likely came from work that she did for Villanova and the Augustinians or from the family’s tavern. Account ledgers from the Catholic Historical Research Center of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia include a more thorough transaction history.
The last withdrawal from her account was not until 1881, however, this personal account book was only used until February 4, 1871.
