Title
Copy of Will, John Barry, February 27, 1803
Description
In his will, John Barry gives instructions for who is to inherit the two people he enslaved, James and Judith.
His will reads, “I give and bequeath my negro man James and my mulatto woman Jude to my beloved wife Sarah during her widowhood or natural life and at her marriage or death, whichever may first happen, the said negro man and mulatto woman shall be free and my executors shall pay to each of them … an annuity of twenty pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania in form of equal quarterly payments.” There's no way to known whether or not Judith and James ever were freed.
