“Flaherty is at the Presbyterian Hospital and the attending physicians consider his condition serious. Constable Whiteman has a warrant for Moulden’s arrest on the charge of assault with intention to kill. The accused, however, is in such a serious condition that he cannot be moved, and has been placed under surveillance at his home … A shooting affair took place on Friday afternoon of last week near Rosemont station on the Pennsylvania railroad by which the two participants were both badly hurt, and others narrowly escaped. The facts seem to be that William Moulden, colored, met John Flaherty during the afternoon and both drank heavily. Towards evening they went to Moulden's house and sat down in the little room of the house and began a game of euchre. The game bad scarcely begun before a dispute arose between the men, and young Moulden rushed upstairs for a revolver. While he was gone Flaherty, who had been put out into the yard by William Moulden, father, fired a shot through the door which Mr Moulden was bolting. The bullet passed through Mr Moulden's clothes and fell into his pocket. The only reason I escaped death," he said "was because I had my scapulary on." In the mean time young Moulden had secured his pistol and had come down stairs with it. He opened the door through which the shot had been fired and rushed out. On the threshold he was met by a shot from Flaherty, who was hiding behind a tree, Flaherty fired two shots, the first of which missed its mark, but the second struck Moulden in the breast. The wound brought him to the ground, but he instantly raised himself on his knees and, aiming his pistol at Flaherty fired twice- The first shot missed its mark, but the second took effect. As soon as Moulden is sufficiently recovered to be taken to Norristown he will have a hearing, but it is thought that he will be discharged on the ground that he fired the shot in self-defence."

“The Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd was the prosecutor in a criminal case heard before Justice of the Peace Ralph N Warner, Jr of Rosemont on Tuesday. The Defendant was Alfred Tunnel, colored, who was charged with trespass. Tunnel was held in $300 bail for trial in court at Norristown.
The church recently purchased the old Moulden property on Lancaster Avenue. After the surveys were completed a gardener was engaged to plant a hedge on the fence line along the avenue.
When the gardener began work, J. Howard Supplee, who resides opposite the church property, entered a protest, claiming that the hedge was not on the property line. The church authorities were positive that it was on the line furnished by the surveyor, but Mr. Supplee insisted that it decreased the legitimate width of Lancaster Avenue 3 feet.
The gardener proceeded with his work, and the 3 foot strip of land became disputed property. On Monday, it is asserted, Mr. Supplee ordered Tunnel, who is in his employ, to drive a two-horse wagon on the contested tract. Tunnel, it is claimed did so and allowed the wagon to remain on what the church claims is its land.
Thereupon the church authorities caused Tunnel’s arrest. Threats of injunction proceedings and suits for damages have been made by both sides, and further legal complications are expected.”
